Electric Guitar Lessons (Online)
For young rock, blues, and metal fans - taught online by a tutor who actually plays the music your child loves.
Electric guitar is its own world: distinct technique, different repertoire, and a sound that excites young players who want to play the music they actually listen to. CogniMusica offers electric guitar lessons fully online for children old enough to handle a full-size instrument - typically from age eight upwards, though it depends on the child. Online delivery means we can teach students anywhere in Scotland (and beyond), without the limitations of studio location.
What Your Child Will Learn
Our electric guitar lessons cover technique specific to the instrument - string bending, sustained notes, palm muting, use of effects - alongside repertoire across blues, rock, and contemporary styles. Students learn to play the music that genuinely motivates them, while building proper technique.
- Electric-specific technique: bending, hammer-ons, pull-offs, palm muting
- Power chords, scales (pentatonic and beyond), and improvisation basics
- Introduction to amp and effects use
- Repertoire from blues classics to rock, metal, and contemporary styles
- Reading tablature and chord charts
- Rockschool and ABRSM exam preparation if desired
The Cognitive Benefits
Electric guitar develops the same bilateral hand coordination and pattern recognition as acoustic guitar, with additional cognitive demands around timing, ear training, and improvisation. Improvising on a pentatonic scale, for instance, exercises real-time decision-making and creative thinking in ways that scripted repertoire doesn't.
How Sessions Work
Electric guitar lessons are delivered fully online over video. This works really well for the instrument - the tutor can see your child's playing in detail, and online delivery means we can offer this specialist tuition wherever you are. Students will need their own electric guitar and a small practice amp (we can advise on suitable beginner setups), plus a device with a camera and a reliable internet connection. Sessions are 40 minutes (£35) or 60 minutes (£40), once or twice weekly.
